Work Safely Outside
In the hot summer months, Rubbish Works takes extra precautions to beat the heat St. Louis faces. Here are some tips that our crew uses that our customers can use when working on outdoor projects themselves:
1.) Beat the afternoon sun: Avoid working in the middle of the afternoon. In St. Louis, the temperature spikes during the mid to late afternoon hours. Make the extra effort to get up early on the morning you complete your outdoor project. If you’re not a morning person, use the time in the afternoon for a nap to take a break for your project. You’ll be energized for part 2 later that evening!
2.) Water, Water, Water: Drink plenty of water, not only during the project, but the day and night before and after you complete the project. Your body needs hydration to prepare itself to work out in these temperatures and then again to rehydrate after the project is complete.
3.) Stay in the shade: Either physically try to stay in the shade as much as possible or provide your own with a hat. Keeping the sun from directly contacting your body will help keep you cooler.
4.) Wear sunscreen: Wearing sunscreen will help recovery later. Your body will bounce back faster if it does not have to fight a bad sun burn.
5.) Many hands make light work: Find some family or friends to help with your project. When we have large clean up jobs, we bring in extra crew members so the job goes faster. The quicker we can complete the job, the less time our crew spends out in the sun and heat.
Here’s to staying safe in the summer heat!
